The Horses

We have 15 horses, most of them brought with us to France from Scotland. They are mainly a mixture of warmbloods and thoroughbreds, most of which we've had from youngsters and brought on ourselves. They are a wide range of sizes (and temperaments) to suit most requirements, but at present we don't have anything heavy enough to take riders much over 12 stone.

Our pupils always have the oppertunity to learn on several different horses, giving valuable insights, to those who may be used to one horse, into adapting one's riding to a horses indiviadual qualities, and also into the principles that remain the same on any horse.

We are of the perhaps out-dated belief that the fulfillment and value of training is what you make of a horse rather than the simple exploitation of its natural talent.

Our horses are 'ordinary' as opposed to 'super-horses' (horses bred for performance with exceptional conformation and movement) whose training has made them supple, responsive to correct riding, and calm - essential qualities for training the rider's seat and posture. We feel it is important that what our pupils learn is relevant and effective on any horse, not just those who are bred to perform, as this will always remain the proof of correct riding, and of the power and universality of engagement.

For us our horses are part of the family and our goal is always to meet their different physical, emotional and training needs. For more details on this click on Holistic Equitation
